Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s visit to the United States (US) and Peru is packed with a diverse and important agenda, aimed at strengthening India’s economic standing on the global stage, commencing April 20, 2025.
FM Nirmala Sitharaman to visit US (April 20–25, 2025)
During her visit to the USA, the Finance Minister will travel to San Francisco and Washington D.C..
San Francisco (April 20–21, 2025)
Sitharaman will begin her tour in San Francisco, where she is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, on the theme “Laying the Foundations of Viksit Bharat 2047”. This will be followed by a fireside chat session.
She will also:
-Participate in a roundtable meeting with top fund management firms, engaging with leading CEOs and investors.
-Hold bilateral meetings with senior executives from prominent IT companies based in San Francisco.
-Interact with the Indian diaspora at a community event, engaging with members of the Indian community living in the region.
Washington D.C. (April 22–25, 2025)
In Washington D.C., the Union Finance Minister will attend the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, and take part in key multilateral events including:
-2nd G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting
-Development Committee Plenary
-IMFC Plenary
-Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable (GSDR)
On the sidelines of these meetings, she will hold bilateral discussions with her counterparts from Argentina, Bahrain, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and also meet with:
-EU Commissioner for Financial Services
-President, Asian Development Bank (ADB)
-President, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)
-UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA)
-First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF
FM Nirmala Sitharaman to visit Peru (April 26–30, 2025)
In the final leg of her tour, Sitharaman will undertake her first official visit to Peru, heading a high-level Indian delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and Indian business leaders.
Beginning her engagements in Lima, she is expected to:
-Call on the President of Peru, H.E. Ms. Dina Boluarte, and Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Gustavo Adrianzén.
-Hold bilateral meetings with Peru’s Ministers of Finance and Economy, Defence, and Energy and Mines.
-Engage with local public representatives to strengthen bilateral ties.
Sitharaman will chair the India-Peru Business Forum, facilitating discussions between prominent business leaders from both nations. She will also meet with:
-Indian investors and businesses operating in Peru.
-The visiting Indian business delegation.
Given Peru’s strategic role in the global supply chain for critical minerals and precious metals, the visit will include discussions focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration in the mining sector to support India’s resource security and foster value-chain linkages between the two countries.
She will also attend a community event in Lima, where she will interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Peru.
