Pahalgam Terror Attack

Twenty-six people, including civilians and tourists, were killed in a deadly attack on Tuesday afternoon in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. It marks the deadliest assault on civilians in recent years and the most severe terror strike in India since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel.

The Resistance Front (TRF), widely regarded as a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility. In response, authorities have released sketches of suspected gunmen, and a large-scale manhunt is underway.

In the wake of the attack, India has taken strong measures against Pakistan. These include suspending the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty and closing the Attari border crossing. Travel privileges for Pakistani nationals under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme have been revoked, and all previously issued visas under the scheme have been cancelled. Defence advisors at Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata, and visa services for Pakistani citizens have been suspended. All Pakistani nationals in India have been ordered to leave by April 27.
