Pahalgam terror attack

Around 2:30 PM on April 22, militants armed with M4 carbines and AK-47 rifles opened fire on tourists in Baisaran. The victims included 24 Indian nationals from various states, two locals from Jammu and Kashmir, and two foreign tourists from Nepal and the United Arab Emirates. Among the casualties were a 26-year-old Indian Navy officer and an Intelligence Bureau official. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers posed as policemen before revealing their intentions and opening fire.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his official visit to Saudi Arabia to return to India and address the situation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah travelled to Srinagar to assess the security situation and coordinate the response. A nationwide manhunt was launched to apprehend the perpetrators, and a helpline was established to assist affected tourists. Global leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with India.

The tragic terror attack on April 22, 2025, has cast a shadow over this peaceful spot despite its beauty and popularity.
