Virat Kohli gets emotional: Bengaluru has erupted in celebrations as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have finally secured their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2025, after 18 years of waiting. This historic victory has led to an emotional outpouring from fans and players, most notably from long-time stalwart Virat Kohli.
“I’ve seen it for 18 years and she’s seen it for 11. Suffered the same moments since 2014 and celebrated every close win and the madness of our supporters at the Chinnaswamy. We’re both equally relieved and since shes a bangalore girl too this is far more special for her. Together all the way through,” Virat Kohli posted on Instagram.
RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This win was particularly significant for Virat Kohli, who has been with the franchise since the inaugural season in 2008 and has consistently expressed his loyalty to the team. He was visibly emotional after the final ball, shedding tears of relief and joy as the 18-year wait for the trophy finally ended. Kohli himself contributed a crucial 43 runs in the final.

Following their historic win, the RCB team returned to Bengaluru for a grand victory parade and felicitation ceremony. The parade, which began from Vidhana Soudha and proceeded to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, saw massive crowds lining the streets, eager to catch a glimpse of their victorious team and the long-awaited trophy. The city was painted red and gold, with chants of “RCB! RCB!” echoing throughout.
However, the immense turnout for the parade also led to some tragic incidents. Reports indicate that a stampede occurred at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the celebrations, resulting in casualties. Authorities are investigating the matter and emphasizing the need for effective crowd management in such large-scale events.
Despite the unfortunate incidents, the overwhelming sentiment in Bengaluru is one of jubilation and pride. The victory is seen as a reward for the unwavering support of the fans and the dedication of players like Virat Kohli, who has often expressed that this win is far more special with RCB due to his deep connection with the team and the city.
