Apple has reiterated its unwavering commitment to its manufacturing operations in India, assuring the Indian government that it sticks to India expansion plans amid US President Donald Trump’s objections. According to a CNBC TV report, Apple emphasised that India continues to be central to its global manufacturing strategy.
The reassurance came after Trump, speaking at a business event in Doha, Qatar, revealed a recent conversation with Apple CEO Tim Cook. Trump claimed he expressed disapproval over Apple’s expanding footprint in India, stating, “I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday. I said to him, my friend, I am treating you very good… but now I hear you are building all over India. I don’t want you building in India.” He further said he told Cook, “India can take care of themselves,” and insisted Apple should increase production within the United States.
In response, Apple communicated directly with Indian officials, clarifying that there would be “no change” in its ongoing and future investments. A senior government source confirmed Apple’s assurance, reaffirming the company’s intention to maintain and grow its operations in India, CNBC TV reported.
India has rapidly become a key production hub for Apple, particularly for iPhones. In the financial year ending March 2025, the tech giant manufactured around $22 billion worth of devices in the country—a significant 60% jump from the previous year. This expansion not only reflects Apple’s deepening reliance on Indian manufacturing but also highlights India’s rising stature in the global electronics supply chain.
