First list for vaccine drive ready, PM Modi set to launch

India’s mega vaccine drive is just hours away. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the pan India rollout of Covid-19 vaccination drive on 16 January 2021 at 10:30 am via video conferencing. The vaccine drive will be the world’s largest vaccination programme. A total of 3006 session sites across all states and UTs will be virtually connected during the launch. In the first list, around 100 beneficiaries will be vaccinated at each session site on the inaugural day.

According to media reports, PM Modi is likely to interact with some healthcare workers from across the country who will be receiving the shots on the first day.

This vaccination programme is based on the principles of priority groups to be vaccinated and Health Care workers, both in government and private sectors including ICDS workers, will receive the vaccine during this phase.

You need a photo ID for your registration which will be verified at the vaccination site. It is mandatory to carry the same ID at the vaccination site get the vaccine.

How will beneficiaries be tracked

The vaccination programme will use Co-WIN, an online digital platform developed by Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which will facilitate real time information of vaccine stocks, storage temperature and individualized tracking of beneficiaries for COVID-19 vaccine. This digital platform will assist programme managers across all levels while conducting vaccination sessions.

A dedicated 24×7 call centre – 1075 – has also been established for addressing the queries related to COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine rollout and the Co-WIN software.

Adequate doses of both Covishield and Covaxin have already been delivered across the country to all States/UTs. These have been further delivered by the State/UT governments to the districts. All preparations are in place to initiate the programme on the principles of Jan Bhagidari.

Meanwhile, with 15,590 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, India’s total tally went up to 1,05,27,683, according to the data released by Union Health Ministry at 8 am on Friday.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) had earlier this month approved Oxford COVID-19 vaccine Covishield, manufactured by the Serum Institute, and indigenously developed Covaxin of Bharat Biotech for restricted emergency use in the country, paving the way for a massive inoculation drive.
