Is this the world’s luckiest phone? iPhone survives 14,000-feet drop without a scratch

iPhone survives 14,000-feet drop without a scratch: In a story that sounds too incredible to be true, Casey Flay, a skydiver in the United States, lost his iPhone during a jump from 14,000 feet—only to later discover that the phone had not only survived the fall but remained in perfect working condition. According to Fox News, the device, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, slipped from Flay’s pocket mid-air and plummeted miles away from his landing spot.

Remarkably, using Apple’s “Find My” feature, Flay was able to track the phone to a forested area. Upon retrieval, he found it completely intact, without even a scratch. He even noted that a previously sticky side button began functioning normally after the fall, adding to the mystery and amazement surrounding the event.

The incident has sparked widespread attention on social media and prompted renewed discussions about the surprising durability of modern smartphones. Experts suggest several factors contributed to the phone’s survival, including the rugged protective case and the soft, marshy terrain where it landed.

This isn’t the first case of its kind. In 2023, another skydiver, Hatton Smith, made headlines when his iPhone also survived a 14,000-feet drop. His device landed embedded in soft mud and was similarly unharmed, thanks in part to a durable Catalyst brand protective case.

iPhone survives 14,000-feet drop without a scratch: While these stories may seem miraculous, there are a few key factors that improve a phone’s chances of surviving extreme falls:

Landing Surface: Soft ground like mud, grass, or foliage significantly reduces impact.

Protective Case: High-quality cases help absorb shock and prevent structural damage.

Air Resistance: As phones tumble, air resistance can reduce terminal velocity, making the landing less severe.

Luck: Ultimately, the angle and point of impact play a major role—and luck can’t be ruled out.

Though such events are rare, they serve as remarkable examples of both technological resilience and a bit of sky-high good fortune. Still, experts warn, it’s not a durability test anyone should try on purpose.
