Tesla has officially entered the Indian market, announcing the pricing for its Model Y SUV. The base version of the Model Y will be available at Rs 61,07,190, while the Long Range variant is priced at Rs 69,15,190 (ex-showroom).
This marks a significant moment for the Indian electric vehicle landscape, with Tesla’s long-awaited debut. The Model Y will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), which contributes to its higher price tag in India compared to other markets due to steep import duties.
Deliveries for the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant of the Model Y are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with the Long Range RWD version slated for delivery starting in October 2025.
Tesla has also opened its first showroom in India, located in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, with a second showroom anticipated to open in New Delhi by the end of this month.
The India-spec Model Y comes with features such as a 15.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, ventilated and heated power-adjustable front seats, an 8-inch screen for rear passengers, and a panoramic glass roof. The standard RWD model offers a WLTP-rated range of up to 500 km, while the Long Range version extends to 622 km.
Tesla’s entry into India, the world’s third-largest car market, is seen as a strategic move as the company navigates challenges in its more established markets.
While the company has not yet committed to local manufacturing in India, its current approach appears to be focused on testing market demand and brand reception.
