Google has unveiled a refreshed version of its iconic ‘G’ logo, marking its first update since 2015. The multi coloured “G” icon, which represents many of Google’s services and apps, has transitioned from distinct solid blocks of red, yellow, green, and blue to a smoother, gradient effect where the colours blend into one another.
The change aims to reflect a more modern and dynamic aesthetic, aligning with Google’s increasing focus on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and innovation .
Currently, the updated logo has been rolled out on the Google Search app for iOS and is gradually being introduced to Android users through beta version 16.18. While the core Google wordmark remains unchanged for now, speculation suggests that other logos, such as those for Chrome, Maps, and Gmail, might also adopt similar gradient styles in the future.
While the “G” icon has been updated, there has been no official announcement regarding similar changes to the full six-letter “Google” wordmark or the logos of other individual Google products like Chrome or Maps at this time.
The May 2025 update to the “G” icon’s color treatment is the latest step in this ongoing evolution, reflecting current design trends towards gradients. Users can expect to see the new gradient “G” logo appear across more Google platforms and devices as the rollout continues.
This subtle yet significant change reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to modernize its brand identity and stay current with evolving digital trends.
